  • NPO organized an international e-learning course on Global Food Safety Trends: Application of Advanced Technologies held on 17-20 December, at Rawalpindi

    National Productivity Organization(NPO) has organized a 4 days International e-learning course on “Global Food Safety Trends: Application of Advanced Technologies” from 17 - 20 December 2018 at PMAS-Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi. The course was organized by Asian Productivity Organization(APO), Japan and participated by four countries i-e Pakistan, India, Iran, and Philippines. In Pakistan 48 participants attended the course who came from various cities of pakistan. The course was conducted by international resource speakers Ms. Darunee Edwards from Thailand Ms. Rina Yoshida and Dr. Bon Kimura from Japan.

    Following contents were presented by the speakers during the course.

       •  Food safety technologies trends
       •  Global trends in food safety management (FSM).
       •  New microbial intervention technologies for FSM.
       •  Advanced technologies (blockchains, IoT, and NGS) for strengthening FSM systems.
       •  Challenges in and opportunities for the adoption of advanced FSM technologies.

    Each participating country conducted observational site visit on 3rd day i.e. 19th December 2018 of the course and delivered a country presentation on 20th December 2018. Participants from Pakistan visited United Biscuits Industries, Islamabad. During the visit participants observe Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Food Safety Management (FSM) applications by the industry.

    A country presentation was prepared and presented by the participants on the basis of information collected during their site visit and their learning from the course. The participants presented their presentation on the last day which received much appreciation from the resource speakers and participants of other participating countries.

    In the closing remarks, National Coordinator from Pakistan appreciated APO for organizing such an important course and sharing the latest food safety trends which are practiced in the developed countries.

    The course concluded by APO representative and Resource Speaker by appreciation to participants of all participating countries for their understanding of the course and presenting excellent observations and recommendation for visited industries.
