| Description |
This book was written for students who have very little knowledge or understanding of how computers work. As such, it concentrates on those issues that are relevant to novices. It is very easy to become lost, overwhelmed, and intimidated by complex or irrelevant jargon. This is especially true when considering a computer in which much of what happens is without any concrete evidence that a new user can focus on. How does the computer know how to spell? How does the image on the screen appear on paper? How do so many pages fit on such a small disk?
This book tries to take some of the mystery out of the process by introducing some simple explanations that make the computer more understandable, friendly, and usable. In a very few cases this may mean that true 100% technical accuracy has suffered; however, there is nothing in this book that will later need to be unlearned because it is wrong.
At times, to those with some expertise, the topics may seem limited or restricted, but this was done intentionally in order to maintain the interest and enthusiasm of those venturing into the world of computers for the first time. |
