The FoxPro program is a sophisticated piece of software and has a very easy-to-use interface. In fact, if you are a beginner who is willing to experiment with FoxPro, you will discover in a mailer of minutes that FoxPro is simple to use. However, it is the programming capability of FoxPro that makes it an, outstanding database management system. You can do useful things by learning only half-dozen or so commands. The more you use FoxPro, the richer it becomes. After a week or so, you will begin to feel like a veteran computer user. That is one reason why I like FoxPro. It can be as simple or as complex as you want to make it.

This book was written for students who have very little knowledge or understanding of how computers work. As such, it concentrates on those issues that are relevant to novices. It is very easy to become lost, overwhelmed, and intimidated by complex or irrelevant jargon. This is especially true when considering a computer in which much of what happens is without any concrete evidence that a new user can focus on. How does the computer know how to spell?
